The Eight Phases of the Moon
The moon rises at sunrise and sets at sunset.
New moon phase: 0 degrees to 45 degrees ahead of the sun.
New moon/Crescent moon combination phase: 35 degrees to 45 degrees ahead of the Sun – refer to New Moon and Crescent moon.
The New moon is the first lunar phase in the waxing cycle.
The moon and sun conjunct the ascendant and the moon’s dark side faces the earth in the new moon.
If you were born at the time of the new moon you may have been very sensitive as a child with a tendency to hide behind yourself or your appearance. Perhaps you felt everyone else was better than you and that other people controlled or limited your growth. As an adult you found out “who you were” and you became your own person. You believe we create our own world. You visualise in your mind, think of things that may not be reality and live in a vision or a figment of your imagination of what could be. You visualise and plan in your mind; then you try to make it a reality. When confronted with problems, you will mull over them, weigh them up, get ideas, visualise them, plan in your mind and then you will act. You can stand back and compartmentalise your ideas; your mind goes from one thing to another in a logical well-ordered manner, but you can procrastinate, and at times you need a good push. When you go into your dream roads, people see you as sitting on the fence but it is not like that; you go into your own dream roads because you think and plan, and then you act. You visualise how things are going to look before you start the job. Once you set your mind on a goal or make a commitment, you will not compromise your vision. You can become single-minded at the expense of feeling and emotion to achieve your goal. Where others are emotional, you become calm and logical, and you deal spontaneously in a crisis situation. You can pull energy when needed, even when tired, to help do the job in a crisis. When you meet people you can subconsciously project your feelings and emotions onto them without regard for their feelings or who they really are. This can cause tension and distress in relationships. Therefore relationships will teach you a great deal about yourself. You can impress your ideas on others and give them the benefit of your ideas if they are of assistance. You operate in a spontaneous and unplanned manner and you prefer to go with the flow. You will discover what you are capable of through acting on your ideas and seeing how far you can expand and grow.
The moon rises about three hours after sunrise and sets about three hours after sunset.
Crescent moon phase: 45 degrees to 90 degrees ahead of the sun.
Crescent moon/First Quarter moon combination phase: 80 degrees to 90 degrees ahead of the Sun – refer to Crescent moon and First Quarter moon.
The Crescent moon is the second lunar phase in the waxing cycle.
As the moon begins to pull away from the sun, the illumination of the sun increases while the dark side of the moon decreases in the Crescent moon phase.
If you were born at the time of the Crescent moon you are self-assertive with a strong subconscious drive to overcome the past through an irrepressible urge to find yourself. It is important that you grow and improve through events, people and relationships. You are aware of the power of the positive and negative forces in the subconscious/conscious mind and you feel through the history of the past that you want to make a statement as to who you are, and what you are capable of. You have faith in yourself, and when confident you will get new ideas and projects started. You observe life and you take it in. You can feel as if patterns repeat themselves and at times people, relationships or events can alert you to future consequences through the repeats of past patterns. You are learning through relationships, people and events to break the patterning of the past. You may hold onto ideas of the past in trying to do what you used to do, but you must move on to what you now want to do, instead of doing what you once used to do. In your mind you will go over the past, analyse it and take it back to first principles where you will try to find out why things happened the way they did. You can get to the point where you have analysed the past so much that it causes pain and damage and you will ask the question, “Does it really matter?” Living in the past destroys the present and you must let go of the past to move on. There is a subconscious and conscious link in the mind that can act as a reminder of the past in the present. This can occasionally occur and create a déjà vu experience similar to that of a flash movie in the mind where you know the same thing has happened before, and you experience it again. You may try to relive the experience for clarification, but the moment is lost. You can feel as if the patterns in your life have their roots in the past. However you have a strong inner urge to move forward on your path to self discovery, expansion and growth.
FIRST QUARTER MOON
The moon rises at midday and sets at midnight.
First Quarter moon phase: 90 degrees to 135 degrees ahead of the sun.
First Quarter moon/Gibbous moon combination phase: 125 degrees to 135 degrees ahead of the sun – refer to First Quarter moon and Gibbous moon.
The First Quarter moon is the third lunar phase in the waxing cycle.
As the moon pulls further away from the sun, the light of the sun increases while the dark side of the moon decreases in the First Quarter phase.
If you were born at the time of the First Quarter moon you are in the two-way pull of the First Quarter phase. When faced with very difficult situations you will challenge self from within, question and examine your emotions, feelings and motives, get into the right frame of mind and then deal with the situation. You can be very positive if you want to do something, and you will do it because you are very strong when you make your mind up. You struggle within yourself when your emotions and feelings pull you in different directions. In general, when emotionally charged situations confront you, you tend to take a step back and look at the angles from which the person or people are coming from. Then you work through the situation in your mind while listening to your intuition to resolve the problem. You can become very determined in the event of a personal injustice. Should this occur, you will make a firm and definite stand in defence of your rights. When other people have problems you try to remain objective. You are guided by intuition and you tend to consider all the different angles and points of view before coming to a conclusion. Your advice often proves to be correct. Your emotions can be changeable and they influence how you feel about people. You either like them or you do not, it just happens that way. You do not like discord and if you think, or feel it necessary to change a situation in order to gain harmony out of discord, then you will do so for the betterment of the environment and for your own forward movement, evolution and growth.
The moon rises about three hours before sunset and sets about three hours before sunrise.
Gibbous moon phase: 135 degrees to 180 degrees ahead of the sun.
Gibbous moon/Full moon combination phase: 170 degrees to 180 degrees ahead of the sun – refer to Gibbous moon and Full moon.
The Gibbous moon is the fourth lunar phase in the waxing cycle.
As the moon pulls further away from the sun, the light of the sun increases while the dark side of the moon decreases in the First Quarter phase.
If you were born at the time of the Gibbous moon the development of personal growth is important to you. You want to contribute meaning and value to the people you associate with. You will work towards the clarification of personal, social and/or cultural issues because you need to clearly understand problems in order to solve them and improve the environment around you. You live in the present and you like to know why things are happening and where you are going because you focus on forward movement. You want to put something back into the evolution of development in your area of interest at a core level. You can’t stand not moving on from where you are. Things cannot remain static, mankind needs to progress. Things need to move on and evolve. You can devote yourself to an ideology or cause and you want others to work with the same passion. You are searching for a goal through study and analysis, and you need to know if what you are learning or doing will help you evolve as a person. You will question theories to see whether these theories apply to your life. You are always relating one thing to another, comparing similarities, partial resemblances etc. whereby you can gain clarification of “who you are”, “where you are going”, and “how you can be of value to your associates, or society in general”. You will try to manipulate or change stagnant structures because you want to develop and improve things. You think in terms of ideals, and you tend to look back over the past to see how you could have done better. This assists you in your forward movement, evolution and growth.
The moon rises at sunset and sets at sunrise.
Full moon phase: 180 degrees to 135 degrees behind the sun.
Full moon/Disseminating moon combination phase: 145 degrees to 135 degrees behind the sun – refer to Full moon and Disseminating moon.
The Full moonis the first lunar phase of the waning cycle.
As the moon opposes the sun, the moon receives the full light of the sun in the first waning phase of the Full moon.
If you were born at the time of the Full Moon you are not emotionally lukewarm. When your emotions are triggered you do not sit on the fence or let things go over your head. You strongly react, or withdraw and seethe, depending on the circumstances. You like people who are responsive to feeling and emotion, people who share with you, and respond to your development and growth. You will reach out to your environment and connect with others in order to clear away obstacles. You will try to systematically deal with problems and responsibilities as they arise, thus eliminating them and moving ahead. You live in your emotions and you act and react instinctively and immediately to other people. Therefore you will learn many lessons through other people and their reactions towards you. You will face many confrontational issues in order to release yourself from the negative reactions of the past. You have a strong inner urge to positively and progressively move forwards. You may try to seek out the ideal in relationships, but you will probably attract the opposite, people who respond to you in a challenging way. You are very aware of how the past has affected the present, and you will force issues that have caused you inner distress and pain, because you want to resolve the past in order to let it go. You cannot let sleeping dogs lie; your natural response is to act, to clear the way, or make statements that let people know how you feel. You do not want to be considered a failure. You want to be a success, and you will try to avoid the negative influences of the past that held you back, or affected your sense of growth and development. You know how the past affects the present and you will let go of any obstacles to future progress. You will strongly react to any person or situation that challenges your forward movement. You are in the Full Moon phase and you will deal with the ties that bind you and leave the snares behind.
The moon rises about three hours after sunset and sets about three hours after sunrise.
Disseminating moon phase: 135 degrees to 90 degrees behind the sun.
Disseminating moon/Last Quarter moon combination phase: 100 degrees to 90 degrees behind the sun – refer to Disseminating moon and Last Quarter moon.
The Disseminating moon is the second lunar phase of the waning cycle.
As the moon begins to pull towards the sun, the light of the sun slowly diminishes and the dark side of the moon begins to increase in the Disseminating moon phase.
If you were born at the time of the Disseminating moon you want to demonstrate to others what you have learned or experienced. You advocate ideas and promote beliefs, anything that has impressed you strongly in your studies or experiences. You will objectively represent a cause if you strongly believe in it, but you must personally believe in it – if the object is worth it. You will resolve to make whatever you set yourself work. If it doesn’t work you can be really disappointed and you can blame yourself for failure. You are not easily influenced by others; you will go with your gut feelings. In fact you will go opposite to other people’s opinions in response to your gut feelings if you feel they are correct because you act from personal experience and in-depth knowledge. If you think other people’s ideas are correct you will promote them, but if anyone goes against your better judgement in any form of misinformation or injustice you will act against them. When confronted with unjust situations, or misrepresentation, you will work to expose the truth because you have high principles connected to human rights, justice and correct representation. You cannot tolerate deceit, double meanings or manipulation of the facts. You will try to expose duplicity or deception, or you will not have anything to do with it. You can be emotional, but if you feel it is not appropriate to express emotion you will control your emotions. You share with others what you have found to be meaningful to you in order to educate them. You have a talent for promoting ideas (yours and other people’s) if you fully believe in them. You have a strong drive to inform others of everything you have experienced or learned.
LAST QUARTER MOON
The moon rises at midnight and sets at midday.
Last Quarter moon phase: 90 degrees to 45 degrees behind the sun.
Last Quarter moon/Balsamic moon combination phase: 55 degrees to 45 degrees behind the sun – refer to Last Quarter moon and Balsamic moon.
The Last Quarter moon is the third lunar phase of the waning cycle.
As the moon pulls closer towards the sun, the light of the sun decreases while the dark face of the moon increases in the Last Quarter phase.
If you were born at the time of the Last Quarter moon you tend to force issues on the basis of some important principle that you consider must be upheld. You can lack flexibility because you want your work appreciated, and your opinions heard. You are projecting your goals into a future of which you can only see the structural outline; the future is never formulated. You keep getting new ideas about old issues. This can be frustrating because your ideas are subject to change. Therefore people don’t really know what you think because it is hard for you to stick to an idea and remain focused. You will go through crises and changes and you will ask the question, “Why can’t I get ahead?” You have to get your focus correct and act accordingly. You have strong principles and a strong code of ethics, but sometimes you get yourself into difficulties because no one seems to understand them; perhaps they are not clearly defined and/or subject to constant change depending on your circumstances. You never stand still. You are constantly being pulled in two directions, thinking of alternatives that interfere with direct focus; you may examine every situation and question every motive or feeling from within, while you struggle to stay focused on a single project in the midst of change, or events pulling your energies in different directions. It is hard for you to stay on one highway when there are many forks in the road. You have a strong drive to evolve and accomplish through the continual change of ideas and opinions that pull you in different directions.
The moon rises about three hours before sunrise and sets about three hours before sunset.
Balsamic moon phase: 45 degrees to 0 degree behind the sun.
Balsamic moon/New moon combination phase: 10 degrees to 0 degrees behind the sun – refer to Balsamic moon and New moon.
The Balsamic moon is the fourth phase in the waning cycle.
As the moon pulls even closer towards the sun, the slim rays of the diminishing sun illuminate the dark side of the moon in the Balsamic moon phase.
If you were born at the time of the Balsamic moon you are conscious of where the future is going and you make decisions based on your conscious awareness. You look into the future in order to break free from the past. You believe life holds something for you and you have an inner drive to succeed in that belief. You can feel possessed by a social destiny and led by an inner power, or even a superior force. You can become aware of an energy within that is something greater than you and you may readily accept sacrifice or martyrdom for the sake of the future, whatever destiny holds for you. You tend to form relationships that inspire you and from inspiration you can help and assist others. This gives you a sense of fulfilment. You are trying to reach a higher goal through “self” and you will associate with friends who have high expectations. You are the kind of person who has a great energy within that is something more powerful than you, something that drives you, and because of this you will sacrifice for the sake of a higher ideal or better cause. You have high expectations and you will push yourself to the limits to fulfil those expectations, otherwise you will feel you have failed. You want to put something back into society and to be the best that you can be within yourself rather than just getting by. You will not do the minimum to get by, you are driven to the maximum; this is an inherent drive and not a conscious thing. You will take a back seat when necessary for the sake of future success. Sometimes it can be more powerful to sit back because it makes others feel more powerful, but through your support something new can manifest from your influence, essence and purpose to help others in the future.
